🔥 Cut the Cord, Reclaim the Self

Cord-Cutting Ritual for Releasing Energetic Attachments

Posted by Hope Moreno | The Wild Alchemist

Not every connection is meant to last.
Some leave behind residue — the kind that clings to your chest, wraps around your heart, and drains your light long after the goodbye.

This spell is for those moments when words weren’t enough. When closure never came. When the tether still tugs — even though you’re ready to let go.

This is not a spell of malice.
This is a spell of reclamation.

🌙 What You’ll Need

  • A black or white candle (for release or purification)
  • A piece of string, twine, or thread
  • Scissors
  • A photo, letter, or object connected to the person/situation (optional)
  • Fire-safe dish or cauldron
  • Salt and water (for grounding after)

đź”® The Ritual

1. Prepare Your Space
Cleanse your space however you choose — smoke, sound, or intention.
Sit in a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted. Light your candle.

2. Name the Cord
Hold the string in your hands.
Visualize the person or energy you’re cutting ties with.
Speak aloud or whisper:

“This is the cord that binds us.
Energetic. Emotional. Invisible, but real.
I see it. I honor what was. And I release what no longer serves.”

3. Tie the Ends
Tie a knot on each end of the string — one side for you, one for them.
As you tie, say:

“I honor my part in this. I honor your path.
But I am no longer available for this energetic exchange.”

4. Cut the Cord
Take your scissors. Breathe deep. When ready, cut the string in half.

“I sever this cord with love and clarity.
I reclaim all pieces of myself.
I send your energy back to you, cleansed and free.”

5. Burn or Bury
You can now burn the string or the object in a fire-safe dish — or bury it in the earth with intention.
If burning, say:

“Ash to ash. Shadow to soil. This tie is no longer mine to hold.”

6. Ground + Seal
Wash your hands with salt water. Blow out the candle.
Breathe into your belly. Place a hand on your heart.
Say:

“I am whole. I am sovereign. I am free.”

đź–¤ A Final Note

You may feel grief. You may feel relief.
Both are valid. Both are sacred.

This spell does not erase what was. It honors the ending.
And that — in itself — is magic.
